What is Arthrosamid?

Arthrosamid is a non-degradable hydrogel injected into the knee to help relieve osteoarthritis pain. Unlike a steroid injection, it integrates into the synovial tissue of the joint, working to restore cushioning and support movement.

The injection is given in a single clinic visit, with no surgery and no overnight stay.

How it works

Arthrosamid is a 2.5% polyacrylamide hydrogel, made up of water and a fine polyacrylamide network. Once injected into the knee joint it integrates with the synovial lining, cushioning the joint and helping to reduce pain and stiffness.

The appointment

After assessment, the injection is given under ultrasound guidance in one visit and takes only a few minutes. Most people walk out the same day and return to light daily activity quickly, following their consultant's advice.

Who it may suit

Adults with knee osteoarthritis whose pain continues despite tablets, physiotherapy or previous injections, and who would prefer to explore a non-surgical option before considering knee replacement.

Who it may not suit

It is not used where there are signs of infection in or around the joint, in certain inflammatory conditions, or where a knee replacement or implant is already in place. Your consultant will check this with you.

How long it lasts

Arthrosamid is non-degradable, so it is not broken down by the body. Published follow-up reports pain relief being maintained over a number of years in many patients, though responses vary from person to person.

Aftercare

Some swelling or discomfort for a few days afterwards is common. Your clinic will give aftercare guidance and arrange follow-up to review how your knee responds.
